ABOUT US

Church of the Living God Galveston, 3315 7 Mile Road, Galveston, TX 77554

Together we are a community of believers. What does that mean, the word community? We believe that together in fellowship we grow closer to God and one another. The bible speaks about iron sharpening iron. We believe that together we grow stronger. We are a community of believers.

We strive to be a church without walls. Jesus calls for us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken. It is there that the lost will be found. Most churches find it is comfortable to stay within the walls, but we make it an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts, to see our city changed.

We highly value our relationships with one another. We look to grow through fellowship, and ultimately growing closer to God. We value the word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.

WHO WE ARE

OUR VISION

Be like Jesus: re-present Jesus everywhere we go. We believe that the righteousness of God makes us holy, blameless and restored in God's sight (Colossians 1:22).

OUR GOAL

As children of God, our goal is the transformation of people. As we witness personal transformations, we can then impact our society, schools, and workplaces.

OUR FOUNDATION

Identity, Healing, Holy Ghost. We believe we are children of God, we believe healing still happens today, and we believe in the power and personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.

OUR HISTORY

SMALL BEGINNINGS

Founded in 1976 by Pastors Robert and Doris Dowdy in a cozy shotgun house in Galveston: Inspired by the fervor of the Jesus Revolution, which swept across America in the late 1960s and early 1970s, our founders brought the same spirit of revival to Galveston.

Initially gathered in various rented buildings around town, then sparked a revival with a tent meeting on the west end, which blossomed into two years under the tent: Echoing the grassroots gatherings of the Jesus Movement, our early years were marked by a passionate quest for spiritual awakening and community.

After two inspiring years in the tent, we purchased land on 7 Mile Road to build our first church: As the Jesus Movement inspired the growth of new churches and communal spaces, our congregation also expanded, leading us to establish a permanent home.

By 1997, our growing congregation led us to double our sanctuary space to accommodate everyone: Our church continued to thrive, necessitating the expansion of our facilities to welcome more followers.

In the fall of 2018, we expanded further by launching our Downtown Campus: Driven by the same evangelistic zeal that characterized the Jesus Revolution, we extended our reach to the heart of the city, opening a new campus to serve a diverse community.

Responding to continued growth, we completed an exciting building remodel on 7 Mile Road in the summer of 2023: The enduring legacy of the Jesus Movement's emphasis on dynamic, inclusive worship environments inspired us to renovate and enhance our main campus, ensuring it meets the needs of our flourishing congregation.
