Our Church History
In 1976 Pastor Robert Dowdy and his late wife Doris felt called to begin a new work in Galveston. They left their denomination and began to seek God.

Their first Sunday Service was held on January 26, 1976 in the home of George and Margie Martin at 3109 Ave R. The house was filled and they soon began to look for another place to meet. They then rented a building
at 39th & Ave N. Wanting revival to begin, they decided to have a tent revival and held it in the front yard of the late F. W. Schaper. What began as a revival ended up being two years spent in the tent. 4.2 acres
of land were purchased and construction began on the present building. Many obstacles were overcome and Pastor and his present wife Claudia are still serving God and growing in His grace and knowledge. On September 7,
1997 the church celebrated the completion of the latest project which doubled the size of the sancturary.

The vision of this church is to -
1. reach out and touch the people of Galveston
so they may come to a knowledge of Jesus Christ;
2. to disciple them in the things of God and
to see them become mature Christians.
3. To reach out to the lost world by supporting
local and world missions.
Church of the Living God is working to see
the end-time harvest by endeavoring to do our
part. If we all do our part, it makes a whole.
